Someone in the Dark is a collection of fantasy and horror short stories by author August Derleth. It was the author's first collection, the publisher's second book. Most of the stories had appeared earlier in the magazine Weird Tales. This copy includes the author's photo trimmed and pasted on the front endpaper (see photo below), with inscription below it: "To W.L. Jurgensen, Sincerely, August Derleth".
Book is solid and clean, with three corners lightly bumped and some light bumping along bottom edges of both boards; gilt lettering on spine is bright; pages are clean and fairly bright; former owner's name written on inside top of front board: "W.L. Jurgensen - 1941".
Dust jacket front is clean and fairly bright, with some chipping at top and bottom corners of fold and at spine; two small tears at top and bottom edges; front cover is separated halfway down from the top and is held on with clear tape; tape along top and and at top corner of rear cover; newer tape along length of inside fold at spine; spine is darkly age yellowed; flaps are clean and bright, age yellowed along the top edges, with original price ($2.00) unclipped.
Overall, this is a very good, solid copy of the book with a good but problematic original dust jacket.
